Last weeks Wii System Update appears to be suffering from firmware 3.0 style syndrome after reports from Wii owners have suggested that it’s buggering up their consoles.

The Wii 4.2 Sytsem Update went live only last week but threads have started appearing on the Nintendo Tech Support Forums reporting freeze and disc read errors.

According to a post by a Nintendo America technician the errors may appear if the console has been modified. But there’s been a bit of collateral damage affecting those that haven’t modified their Wii.

Thankfully Wii owners with unmodified consoles will get their console fixed “at no charge,” says Ninty.

But those that have fiddled with it will have to put their skills to the test by fixing it themselves it seems. Or take the walk of shame to the store to buy another one.
