Gran Turismo PSP the “toughest challenge” in GT history says Yamauchi
Gran Turismo 5 won’t be out till March 2010. Maybe GT PSP had something to do with that. Its creator Kazunori Yamauchi said it was the toughest challenge the team has ever faced.
Chatting about the challenge of fitting the game on the PSP Yamauchi told Now Gamer that it “was probably the biggest change and the toughest challenge we’ve faced in our history developing the Gran Turismo series.”
He insisted it was more than a case of porting a series from one format to another saying explaining that it required a total potable style revamp just to get in on the handheld.
“It was extremely difficult”, he said. “To get Gran Turismo to fit on the PSP, we essentially had to redesign the game.”
Unlike console GT offerings Yamauchi explained that one of the major differences besides being portable was the more personal aspect of multiplayer, with players able to play mutliplayer with up to four people in their presence.
He likened it to a party game: “…the game has the words ‘The Real Driving Simulator’ in the title, though I really feel more like the goal in making it was to turn Gran Turismo into a party game,”he said.
“I want people to get together with three of their friends, sit around playing the game, and then suddenly realise it’s getting light outside, just like they would with cards. I wanted the PSP version to have that kind of feeling to it.”
