Rumour: Infinity Ward responds to dedicated server petition
The system works. Infinity Ward has apparently responded to the now 94k-strong petition for dedicated servers to be included in Modern Warfare 2 PC promising that it “won’t be ignored.”
Infinity Ward incurred the wrath of PC gamers by declaring that dedicated servers for the Call of Duty 4 follow-up will be replaced by IWNet.
The new service will pair players against others of the same rank and still allow for private matches.
But with over 90,000 fans petitioning against the new service it went down like a WMD. Thankfully for PC gamers its got Infinity Ward’s lugs feeling the singe.
On the petition Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling is alleged to have said via a direct Twitter message that it: “Definitely made a big wave, and the response will not be ignored. I’ll ensure everyone at IW sees the petitions and responses to it.”
Robert Bowling himself has yet to publicly mention the petition, so well wait and see what develops should we not hear otherwise.

Yes i have signed the partition..The WM2 PC gaming communitie will die if there anrent dedicated servers hired or bought..we can handle piracy(most servers arent playable with a cracked kopy),cheaters and mods ourselfes…Way better then infinity can do..how can a smal lgroup(think 100 max) of so called IW admins keep an eye to the 1000000000000s and 1000000000000s of games that are being played? they cant..We can handle this all our selfes

Until 402 confirms this I’ll have to treat it as speculation. I’m not doubting you but without proper sources and the nature of the internet I have to take this with a grain of salt.
I understand your concerns and have amended the article to say that Bowling is alleged to have said what the report over at A2k implies. Just to clear up any confusion. Thanks for your input guys.
I have noted that Bowling has yet to publicly declare anything regarding the petition. It does seem strange that he wouldn’t be more public with such a positive message.
@Tin Can
I too will wait for a proper confirmation, all is treated as speculation till I see it on his twitter or hear it via another webcast with BASHandSLASH
Nearly all of my clan (50+ members) will probably be cancelling their pre order most have already done so, we have a large regular community of over 200 people as well and the feed back is most of them will be cancelling also.
IW have really shot themselves in teh foot with this one, but at least it is not like OPF: DR where they didn’t announce it beforehand and the official forums were ballistic with angry users, nearly all negative posts being deleted, the reason for this is to screw us with DLC as the only way to get new maps and content for the game
Well developers take note, PC gamers are not as dumb as console users, we wont get ripped off just for you to screw us more
I buy a multiplayer game to multiplay without restriction….
I want to be able to find or host a server that will enable me to enjoy evenings of entertainment with friends and also make new gaming friends. I dont want to be forced onto servers hosted by some 11 year old who will spit out his dummy at the first kill…. and to suffer the woes of insufficient bandwidth by the host…..
You might possibly kill multiplay piracy by going down the route you have chosen…, but you will also kill the multiplayer experience for a far greater number of people and suffer losses at the till because of it…
I for one wont be buying it untill and any other multiplayer fan should’nt either….
At first I KINDA felt sorry for the PC gamers but now it’s getting ridiculous. They were being spoiled without even knowing it. They don’t even know how IW.net will work. If anything this so called petition should have be made after the fact. Wait to find something wrong with the new system before you complain about it.
@Fox:
Well clearly you haven’t ever gone to a LAN, or played COD4 on PC. I am assuming that you have a console.
I have both a console and a PC and I prefered to play COD4 on PC as there were locally hosted servers and we had a clan server in which we used to practise in.
Dedicated servers also provide lower pings in South Africa because our person line speeds aren’t great but the Dedicate Server ease the lack of speed by providing the service on a single server with high connectivity.
Dedicated servers also ease finding games as you have a listing of 20 or so favourite servers and you just select the one and play.
As much as I enjoy XBL and PSN I don’t feel that a peer-to-peer service is approapriate in a lot of coutries to give the ability to play 24 player games with low pings.
A lot of uninformed comments here. If you don’t understand why PC gamers are upset, do yourself a favour and do some research.
Well, a lot of uninformed comments everywhere I see this article posted. Not so many here :p
Point still stands though.
i signed the partition, no-dedicated servers?? public servers die! i canceled my pre-order. who are they kiddin? they are just to lazy to create an dedicated server feature, cause they already had the IWNet from the consolegames.
I feel fucked.
