Modern Warfare 2 PC multiplayer gets nine vs nine cap
Infinity Ward appears to have got PC gamers up in arms once more after the developer confirmed that the maximum amount of players in Modern Warfare 2 PC’s multiplayer mode will be stripped from 32 to 18.
It means there will be no more than 18 players on any map at any given time. PS3 and Xbox 360 versions were already capped at 18 players but not PC.
Infinity Ward’s Mackey McCandlish told fans at a Q&A session that it was to blance things out amongst all the perks and other player upgrades.
“The max number of players on all platforms are 1v1 through 9v9.” McCandish said. “This is the number of players we focused on when we were balancing map size, perks, classes, challenges, etc.”
One Q&A attendee going by the name of Axen didn’t take the news so well. “”Please explain how a 9v9 match is a multiplayer experience? I’d have more fun serving lunch at a local nursing home.”
Elsewhere in the session McCandish briefly reiterated how the IWNet service will work.
“IWNet matches players together based on several factors including ping and skill. After players are matched, the most suitable host is determined. That player hosts until they quit, at which time hosting responsibilities will normally migrate to another player without interrupting the match.”
