New PlayTV update: High-def recording, better upscaling

Submitted by Matt Jackson on November 5, 2009 – 4:00 pmNo Comment

New PlayTV update: High definition recording, better upscalingSony’s Euro PS Blog has let word of its latest PlayTV update offering high definition recording, Sony Ericsson Aino support and improved SD upscaling.

The latest update (1.21) will let viewers watch, pause and record high definition telly for DVB-T standard broadcast in countries that are launching free digital HD channels.

Unfortunately there doesn’t appear to be any free HD channels in the UK. Freeview HD will use DVB-T2 for broadcast in the UK.

The update also adds support for the Sony Ericsson Aino handset featuring remote play brushing up its interface for the “best mobile PlayTV experience possible.”

And finally, a feature that everyone can enjoy. Better standard definition upscaling. According to Sony SD scaling has been improved, so viewing standard def pics on a HD screen won’t look like they’ve been scrubbed with sandpaper.
