Microsoft: “70% OR 80%” of publishers working on Natal games, to prolong Xbox 360 lifespan

Microsoft: Up to "80%" of publishers working on Natal, will extend Xbox 360 lifespanThose worried about no games being available at launch for Project Natal can put their fears to one side after Microsoft boasted that up to “80%” of publishers are working on “Natal-based games.”

Chatting about the potentially industry changing tech Microsoft admitted that showing off Project Natal in a live demonstration at E3 was risky, but they wanted to prove to third party publishers that it was real.

Seemingly convinced the majority of games publishers are already at work on Natal games Microsoft’s Robbie Bach told CBC news.

“We have something like 70% or 80% of the publishers in the world already doing Natal-based games,” Bach said.

“We want to have a few titles from Microsoft that show the way and then we want the breadth and power of the ecosystem from our partners to bring lots of new ideas, new innovations, new concepts to the marketplace.”

On the impact of Natal on Xbox 360 Bach reckons it’ll further prolong the shelf life of the console. Or in other words, prevent it from gathering dust.

“The fact that we can deliver a new Xbox Live service every year is a very powerful thing and completely changes the experience without changing the console, without requiring the industry to reboot every five years. The fact that we can introduce something like Project Natal and have it work on every Xbox 360 and create an entirely new way to interact with the system speaks to all of that.”

Microsoft reckons it’ll shift millions this holiday season.
