iPad will convince gamers to try out PSP says Sony

iPad will convince gamers to try out PSP says SonyLike the iPhone and iPod Touch the newly revealed iPad will further boost Apple’s growing gaming credentials. But far from giving one of gaming’s big boys sleepless nights Sony says the iPad could turn gamers onto the PSP.

Since unleashing the iPhone and iPod Touch Apple has shown the world it is indeed a serious contender in handheld gaming.

With hundreds of top quality games, many of them free, both devices are more than a viable alternative to both the Nintendo DS and PSP.

Now the brand new iPad looks to further cement Apple not just as a gaming heavyweight, but a potential game changer with its larger screen plus all the features found in previous fruit devices such as iTunes and App Store skills, Safari web browsing, email and more.

But while Nintendo president Satoru Iwata somewhat dismissed it as a “bigger iPod Touch” Sony director of hardware marketing fellow, John Koller has welcomed the iPad with open arms by telling the Wall Street Journal it’ll convince gamers to eventually plump for a “deeper” experience on the PSP.

“Apple’s entrance into the portable gaming space has been a net positive for Sony. When people want a deeper, richer console, they start playing on a PSP,” he said.

A fair prediction or a load of PR babble? Let us know your thoughts.

The iPad may well be capable of delivering the same core experiences as found on the PSP, as the iPhone most recently proved with its recently released rendition of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, and with games such as Final Fantasy set to hit the iPhone, and surely the iPad the PSP may have more of a fight on its hands than Sony thinks.

  • That’s possible since iPad is just a larger version of iPod Touch. I’ve come across a lot of blogs about iPad and most of them are ranting about it. Primarily because it has no camera, it doesn’t support Flash and inability to multi-task.
