New Lara Croft game announced, just don’t mention Tomb Raider

Submitted by Stephen Ebert on March 4, 2010 – 8:31 pmOne Comment

It’s been a while since we last heard news on the inevitable Tomb Raider reboot. Now Square Enix has broken the silence with the announcement of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light for download in 2010. Strangely there’s no mention at all of Tomb Raider.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light will be developed by Crystal Dynamics and as the name suggests will feature Tomb Raider heroine Lara in a title the developer is calling “something completely new and very different to what people might be expecting.”

“Lara Croft is such an iconic character in videogames, with Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light we have created what we believe is a truly original digital experience,” Darrell Gallagher, General Manager of Crystal Dynamics said.

Quite what’s in store for Ms Croft remains to be seen. All will be revealed at the Game Developer’s Conference on March 9th in a “behind closed doors” event.

Till then we can but gaze at the game’s website, which reveals very little. We wonder if it has something to do with this.
