Sony: PlayStation Move for hardcore and casual gamers, better than Natal and Wii

Submitted by Stephen Ebert on April 3, 2010 – 8:32 pmNo Comment

Speaking about Sony’s new motion controller – PlayStation Move SCEA man Peter Dille said he expects the device to appeal to both casual and hardcore gamers who’ve “looked down their nose at motion gaming.”

Dille told The Financial Times that PlayStation Move will be geared to all types of gamer, and will offer experiences yet to be had using motion sensor devices.

Unlike the Wii Remote, the PlayStation Move uses a camera and physical controllers, while Microsoft’s body sensor – Project Natal only uses a camera for players to use their body to manipulate on-screen interactions.

It’s this combination, which Dille thinks will set it apart from the Wii and Project Natal.

“The combination of that precision along with the button on the controller means that you’re now able to develop and play games that you can’t do with the Wii and Natal. That level of precision gives you different types of experiences like a [first-person] shooter and we can do casual games as well”, Dille boasted, adding that hardcore gamers should also look forward to getting their hands on Move.

“Hard-core gamers have looked down their nose at motion gaming: it’s not particularly satisfying for them because it’s not terribly precise or challenging, it’s more social. So we’ll have games that the whole family can play that are very social , but we’ll also be able to do hard-core gamer games via a motion device that has never been done before.”
