PlayStation mobile on the way?

Submitted by Stephen Ebert on May 8, 2009 – 1:30 pm2 Comments

PlayStation mobile on the way?Presumably fed up with Apple trying to steal a march on its territory, Sony has admitted that a PlayStation mobile phone “could happen.”

The admission came from no less a figure than the president of Sony Ericsson, Hideki Komiyama, who conceded that the company has struggled to keep up with the latest developments in the mobile industry.

“If we do not adapt to this new technology or new market environment, we’re going to lose,” Komiyama told the Financial Times.

At the moment it’s all “could” or ‘if’, but given that Sony’s game division is currently concentrating its efforts on a new PSP it’s difficult to see a PlayStation mobile anytime soon.

And with many Sony Ericsson mobiles (though there are some good ones about) failing to rouse any real excitement from anyone it’s likely that such device would struggle not only with the likes of the iPhone, but also against Nokia who also have the N-Gage platform that Nokia would have you believe is doing extremely well.

Word of advice to Sony Ericsson: concentrate on making your phones, well, better first of all.
