First new Legend of Zelda image – what we think we know
Nintendo has released the first ever teaser art for the next Legend of Zelda game. But there’s more to the image than meets the eye. Where’s Link’s sword?
Earlier this week Nintendo genius Shigeru Miyamoto told the press at a closed doors event that a new Wii Zelda game will be released sometime in 2010 that might use Wii MotionPlus.
He also showed a select few some unseen concept art from the game. Unseen, until now.
The art, seen below is the confirmation all Nintendo fans have been waiting for, including us that another Zelda game will arrive on the console.
It also shows that Nintendo may well have abandoned the cell-shaded look for console Zelda games, showing a much more mature Link accompanied by a Zora-like figure, which various outlets are implying could some sort of reincarnated Master Sword.
Come to think of it, why isn’t our Triforce hunting hero holding a sword. Take a look at his right hand. Is that a claw?

Miyamoto said he might implement MotionPlus into the game and a new angle on Links attacking options would not only lend a new slant on the game, but show off the new motion sensor controls.
That said we’re only speculating. And to be honest would rather see Link carry a sword. But there’s no harm in guessing right.
Also, we’re not saying anythings for certain when it comes to early Zelda concepts. Remember the GameCube Spaceworld demo in 2000 showing what many thought at the time was from the next Zelda game? Here it is:
What we eventually got was a cartoonified version instead. Some loved it, some hated it. But it just goes to show. This concept art either tells us a lot about the next game, or very little.

Notice something odd about the concept art. Link has always been left handed, and held the sword in his left hand the shield in his right. In the picture he is holding the shield in his left hand. Why?
Link was changed to right handed in Twilight Princess. To better immerse players (who are right handed by majority) with the motion controls.
Not sure if they play tested this and then switched or someone high up said he would now be right handed from the get go.
Oops that’s right. The gamecube version was still left handed, and I now figured out that he is now right handed because of the Wii controls. (So used to him being left handed that forgot the game was mirrored for Wii).
