No “significant reason” to make Wii HD, says Nintendo boss

No "significant reason" to make Wii HD, says Nintendo bossNintendo president Satoru Iwata has said that giving the Wii HD skills will have no “significant meaning” for the console’s owners.

When probed by Venture Beat about the lack of true high-definition graphics on the Wii the Nintendo President said the introduction of HD would only happen if Nintendo was to make a new console.

HD has now become the benchmark for picture quality, something Iwata acknowledges. But despite this he sees no reason to implement HD on the Wii saying it isn’t “significant to users.”

“As far as the Wii is concerned, we have not found a significant reason to make it HD-compatible at this time. What is the significant meaning to the users?

“I don’t think we should do it unless we find that reason. If we decide for other reasons to make new hardware, then HD is one of the things we would naturally add.”

So it looks like we won’t get to play Mario Galaxy 2 and the new Zelda game in HD then.
