Crytek is finally bringing Crysis to consoles with the sequel due to appear on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and publisher EA is suggesting it will be “as good as anything.”

Speaking to Gamasutra about why Crytek held off from developing for consoles, Electronic Arts general manager, David Demartini said that the company will only go to a platform “when they have something that’s as good as anything in the industry, if not the best on that platform.”

Very little has been seen of Crysis 2, but the EA man teasingly said that “consumers can look forward to is them setting a new bar against any game whatsoever on those platforms.”

Earlier in the interview Crytek CEO Cervat Yervil revealed that the company told EA  “we’re trying to make the best game possible on consoles – let’s do that, let’s research it,” and now judging from what’s been said it looks like the company is onto something special.

Also mentioned during the interview was the intricacies of developing for the PS3 and Xbox 360 with the aim of “delivering the best game on PC, on 360, and for the PS3 market.”

To date the original Crysis title had, and still has some of the most visually inspiring graphics seen anywhere. If the console version even comes close gamers are in for a treat.
