Germany planning to stop online games being sold via Austria
Fresh from attempting to ban all violent games in Germany The Commission for the Protection of Young Persons in Germany now plans to ban the sale of online games in Austria.
Germany has already banned some online games in the country, so to get round this some sneaky gamers have been downloading them from Austrian websites, where they aren’t illegal.
Now the German commission has submitted its request for such games to be banned from being sold via Austria to the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons.
The reason? To protect gaming youths from “social-ethical disorientation”, “brutalisation of young adults” and “lasting empathy loss.”
It’s not the first time Germany has taken such steps to curb video games. One of its biggest department stores has already banned violent games, while German ministers are attempting to stop violent games being sold altogether.
