Microsoft pens TV deal with Canal +
Xbox 360 users in France will soon be able to watch films, soaps, footy and more without the need for a dish or decoder after Microsoft signed a deal with French television channel Canal +.
The latest Xbox 360 deal is just another part in Microsoft’s strategy to enhance the mainstream appeal of the console.
The partnership with Canal + will see a range of on-demand services for the console, specializing in football and drama and “more than 3,000 films” Reuters reports.
It’s also reported that Microsoft and Canal + will work to extend the range of services offered to console owners in future.
The deal has echoes of the Sky TV deal Microsoft earlier concluded letting UK viewers view Sky telly without a dish or set top box for a reduced fee.
During E3 Microsoft also announced Twitter and Facebook for the xbox 360 console in an effort to make the console more of a media/social hub.
