Batman game pirates foiled by Eidos and Rocksteady

Submitted by Stephen Ebert on September 9, 2009 – 9:00 amOne Comment

Batman game pirates foiled by Eidos and RocksteadyBatman: Arkham Asylum publisher Eidos and developer Rocksteady have made fools out of pirates by removing Batman’s gliding abilities. Instead sending players to their doom.

It’s the most hilarious method of punishing pirates we’ve heard. The crafty tactic was uncovered after one pirate posted a message on the Eidos forums.

“I’ve got a problem when it’s time to use Batman’s glide in the game. When I hold <Space>, like it’s said to jump from one platform to another, Batman tries to open his wings again and again instead of gliding. So he fels down in a poisoning gas. If somebody could tell me, what should I do there?”

What appears to be a bug in the game is actually cunning way to punish game pirates. The PC version, which the user refers to has yet to release.

So with pirates in mind a countermeasure was implemented to cancel out Batman’s flying abilities and instead send players to their doom.

A reply from Keir of Eidos amusingly confirmed as much:

“The problem you have encountered is a hook in the copy protection, to catch out people who try and download cracked versions of the game for free.

“It’s not a bug in the game’s code, it’s a bug in your moral code.” Holy justice Batman!
