If you haven’t played the Tech Demo on PS5 and Xbox Series around The Matrix, here are a few minutes of gameplay to appreciate the beauty of “the game” in Unreal Engine 5.
The Matrix Awakens – An Unreal Engine 5 Experience is not, strictly speaking, a game. It is more particularly a technical demo intended to present the quality of Unreal’s latest 3D engine, all with a coating that teases the arrival of Matrix 4 at the cinema at the end of the year.
After few minutes of introduction full of meta references and little words in homage to the first trilogy (we reveal a little bit of it to you at the end of the video), Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss teleport in a dogfight in cars of a handful of minutes where you can shoot agents during a chase reminiscent of Matrix Reloaded.
Then, direction the TPS “game” reminiscent of Enter the Matrix, you play as a character in a big city and enjoy a free view to inspect the graphics, or even drive a car. The experience is very special, but remains a technical demo and not a game: no sensations in the car, not too much audio design, no particular gameplay mechanics, just exploration.
