Tolkien’s universe still has a lot to offer in video games and no, we are not talking about the title about Gollum, but about a new production.
This future game is concocted by one of the big subsidiaries of Take-Two Interactive, Private Divisionwhich has notably published The Outer Worlds. The latter has collaborated with Weta Workshop, the company behind the special effects of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, to produce a new title set in the well-known world of Middle Earth.
A different experience?
One could suspect that the infiltration game about Gollum was not going to be the last software taking place in the Lord of the Rings universe. It’s now confirmed by Private Division, but there’s very little information to go on. Will we play as new characters? Does the story take place in the first age or the second? To get answers to these questions, we will have to be patient.
We’re thrilled to announce that we have partnered with @WetaWorkshop to publish a new game set in the literary Middle-earth universe of J.R.R. Tolkien. We look forward to sharing more about the project in the future! pic.twitter.com/z9HxvXe7Da

However, we do know one thing and it will surely pique the curiosity of fans. Indeed, according to Amie Wolken, the head of interactivity at Weta Workshop, we’ll obviously be dealing with a new and refreshing experience, which will surprise even the biggest aficionados of the franchise:
It is a privilege to create a new game set in Middle-earth, especially one so different from what fans have played before;
As fans ourselves, we are thrilled that players are exploring Middle-earth in ways they have never done before and introducing new fans to the magic of The Lord of the Rings.
At this point, we know almost nothing about the release date, other than that the game should be released before the end of Take-Two’s fiscal year 2024, so before March 31, 2024. As for the platforms involved, the mystery remains.
