All about the new PS Plus subscription: games, prices, trophies…

Sony is slowly starting to deploy its new Playstation Plus offer on PS5 and PS4 around the world, time for us to take stock of everything we know about this new formula.

The former “Project Spartacus” supposed to overshadow the Xbox Game Pass, even if he does not admit it, is coming to us soon and will offer no less than 3 new offers. On the menu, access to multiplayer, game catalogs PS5, PS4, PS3, PS2, PSP and PS1backwards compatibility and more.

When is the new Playstation Plus coming out?

The revamped PS Plus will be available first in Asia, then in America, and finally in Japan and the rest of the world.

PlayStation Plus release date:

  • Asia (excluding Japan), released today
  • Japan, scheduled for release June 2, 2022
  • North America and South America, scheduled for release June 13, 2022
  • Australia, New Zealand and Europe, scheduled for release June 23, 2022

What’s the difference between PS Plus subscriptions?

With the redesign, there is no longer one but three different PlayStation Plus, each offering advantages such as exclusive promotions, access to retro games or even playable demos.

Playstation Plus Essential:

It is an equivalent to the PlayStation Plus subscription that we have known for years, the Essential formula gives access to the same advantages:

  • PS4 and PS5 monthly games
  • Access to online multiplayer
  • Exclusive discounts
  • Cloud storage
  • Exclusive promotions

PlayStation Plus Extra:

Improved version of PS Plus Essential which offers all the advantages of the latter and also gives access to a catalog of PS4 and PS5 games

  • All the benefits of PS Plus Essential
  • Catalog of PS5 and PS4 games

Playstation Plus Premium:

This is the ultimate PlayStation Plus experience according to Sony, this formula not only gives access to all the advantages of previous offers, but also to a large catalog of retro games, exclusive free demos and the possibility of playing via the cloud.

  • All the benefits of PS Plus Extra
  • Catalog of PS4 and PS5 games
  • Catalog of PS1, PS2 and PSP Classics, PS3 Remasters
  • Time-limited trial versions of top titles
  • Original PS3 games via cloud streaming

What are the prices for the new PlayStation Plus?

If the price of the PlayStation Plus Essential remains equivalent to the prices of the old PS Plus, the Extra and Premium offers, on the other hand, cost a bit more. In any case, you can choose to pay monthly, in three-month installments or annually.

  • PlayStation Plus Essential: €8.99 per month / €24.99 per quarter / €59.99 per year
  • PlayStation Plus Extra: €13.99 per month / €39.99 per quarter / €99.99 per year
  • PlayStation Plus Premium: €16.99 per month / €49.99 per quarter / €119.99 per year

I am already a PlayStation Plus and/or PlayStation Now subscriber. What will happen to my subscription?

Sony said as soon as it announced its new PS Plus, anyone with a PlayStation Plus or Playstation Now subscription will see their subscription transform itself into one of the new offers.

  • For PS Plus subscribers: the subscription will go directly to PlayStation Plus Essential and the benefits will therefore remain unchanged.
  • For PS Now subscribers: the subscription will go straight to PlayStation Plus Premium and they will enjoy all the benefits mentioned above.

What is the list of games present in the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalog?

With several hundred games announced, Sony has seen things big for the launch of its new PS Plus. You will find the complete list of PS5, PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1 and PSP games planned for launch by going to this address. Other titles will obviously be added over the months.

Are retro games improved on PS4 and PS5?

If we can’t speak of a real technical boost, classic PS1 and PSP games will have the right to several visual modes as well as quick saves or a rewind option. These additions are however optional and it is up to the developers to decide whether to integrate them or not.

The PS2 and PS3 opuses, on the other hand, have, for the moment, no specific options to improve their rendering. Note also that most of them will be remastered versions anyway and therefore already upgraded.

Are there trophies for retro games and PlayStation Plus?

Yes, Sony has made it official support for trophies for all games in the catalog.

For PS1, PS2 and PSP games, however, trophies remain optional and it is up to the developers to choose whether they add them or not.. Some titles have already announced that they would have the right to their own platinum like Siphon Filter, Ape Escape, Everybody’s Golf or Kurushi.

Can we stream or download PlayStation Plus games?

Yes, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium game catalogs are available for download and also streamable under certain conditions:

PlayStation Plus Extra:

  • PS1, PSP, PS4, and PS5 games are available to download, along with some PS2 and PS3 remasters or remakes.
  • There is no streaming offer with this subscription

PlayStation Plus Premium

  • PS1, PSP, PS4, and PS5 games are available to download, along with some PS2 and PS3 remasters or remakes.
  • PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 and PSP games will be available for streaming. This includes streaming access to the catalog of games from the Extra and Premium offers.

Note that streaming availability will vary by title and PS5 games are not compatible for the moment. In addition, you can play streaming on PS4/PS5 console and PC.

  • 300 MB of available storage
  • 2 GB RAM
  • Soundcard; USB port

Optimal:
