CitiGroup experts estimate the loss that Sony could experience in the event of an Xbox exclusivity for the Call of Duty franchise. Which is, fortunately for PlayStation, not planned.

In a comment from banking experts CitiGroup, the possible shortfall for Sony in the event of the loss of the Call of Duty license has been analysed. In the report, analysts estimate that the manufacturer of the PlayStation, whose franchise is a flagship saga, would lose between 87 to 262 million euros each year in the event of Xbox exclusivity.

This is not huge considering the annual turnover of the company, which exceeds the $80 billion, but it once again indicates the power and interest of the license for the PlayStation. But on the side of Sony, we can be reassured, Phil Spencer indicated that it wanted to keep CoD on PlayStation, even after Microsoft acquired Activision-Blizzard in 2023.

In 2020 alone, the franchise generated the 3 billion dollars with mainly Warzone and the mobile opus. There is no doubt that Sony will do everything not to let go of the goose that lays the golden egg. Even more if the annual releases are finally abandoned in favor of longer developments.
