The Barrière family regains control of the entire group
For many years now, the Barrière group has been the largest operator of land-based casinos in France in terms of gross gaming revenue.
Recently, Alexandre Barrière and his sister Joy Desseigne-Barrière took over the helm.
They have just regained control of the entire family group, having reached an agreement to buy out Fimalac’s shares for a total of 325 million euros.
Fimalac doubles its initial investment
For several months now, the winds of change have been blowing through the Barrière group. Indeed, despite a difficult handover, former Chairman and CEO Dominique Desseigne has finally agreed to hand over the reins to his eldest son Alexandre Barrière in April 2023.
Rumors and other behind-the-scenes rumors claim that their relationship is no longer exactly on the up and up.
Whatever happens, this transformation was confirmed once again on Friday July 28. An agreement has finally been reached for Fimalac’s shares to revert to Alexandre Barrière and Joy Desseigne-Barrière.
Since 2011, this holding company founded and run by billionaire Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière has owned no less than 40% of Société de Participation Deauvillaise.
Well, these shares have just been sold for around 325 million euros. Fimalac has pulled off an excellent financial operation. Indeed, the holding company has managed to double its investment in just a dozen years.
Unsurprisingly, it was the Barrière family who purchased the company, becoming the group’s sole shareholder. The banks Lazard, Rothschild and Crédit Agricole CIB advised on the transaction.

As of April 2023, Dominique Desseigne is no longer Chairman and CEO of Groupe Barrière. He will simply have to content himself with the title of Honorary Chairman. His eldest son, Alexandre Barrière, is now at the helm of the famous French land-based casino operator.
To support him in this arduous task, he can also count on the support of his sister Joy Desseigne-Barrière.
Following the purchase of Fimalac’s shares, the 2 children now own 100% of the family group’s capital.
After the death of his wife Diane Barrière-Desseigne, their father has always been only the usufructuary. Now they can finally transform the operator as they wish.
We know, for example, that he intends to develop the company even further internationally, and embrace the digital revolution.
To help them bring these ambitious plans to fruition, Alexandre Barrière and Joy Desseigne-Barrière have hired a new CEO: Grégory Rabuel, who was previously head of SFR and Altice France.
