The studio behind Psychonauts 2 this year can now focus on its future: several new projects are already underway.
The talented team of equally talented Tim Schafer, Double Fine, is to the task on “several new games”. The announcement comes directly from the studio, which used the crowdfunding platform Fig to discuss its 2022 roadmap.
Project Psychonauts 2 is basically finished, but there will be some tweaks and fixes as we go. The studio is already divided into several teams and launches different projects which we think you will like. We love the experimentation here at Double Fine. Each game is an opportunity to explore new ideas, new visual or gameplay styles, emotions, etc.. Psychonauts 2 was an opportunity to revisit and reimagine the classic that launched our studio into the future. It’s been a long process, but we like to think the outcome has been pretty good. We made a successful landing.
The studio therefore specifies that it will now focus on these projects while continuing to closely follow the feedback of Psychonauts 2 players so as not to neglect them. Until a project “needs to be totally dedicated to him”, can we understand moreover.
Double Fine hopes to continue exploring video games in their own way, in complete creative independence. As a reminder, the studio is now owned by Microsoft but in an interview in October, Phil Spencer (who believes Psychonauts 2 is the GOTY 2021) explained that he offered Tim Schafer support and a framework, leaving him free to choose his path. Hope this continues …
