Bad news for EA’s football simulation, as FIFA 22 is forced to remove Argentinian legend Diego Maradona from its legends roster.
A massive blow for the players but also for EA Sports, since the sentence has just fallen, and this with immediate effect. After a long legal fight between third parties and the Californian firm, EA loses the right to use the image of the illustrious Diego Maradonathe Argentine football legend who died in November 2020. It would seem that the initial agreement was found with one of his former managers who then no longer had legal authority on the use of the star’s rights.
Due to a dispute with a third party, we have to suspend the appearance of Diego Maradona in the FIFA Ultimate Team, Ultimate Draft and Soccer Aid World XI team packs. As a result, Diego Maradona Icon Items will no longer be available in Packs, SBCs, and FUT Draft, and their price range has been corrected until further notice. We share our fans’ disappointment and hope to bring one of football’s greatest icons back into the game at some point in the future.
As this message from the editor suggests, nothing is final, and it is not impossible that an agreement will be found in the future to see him back into FIFA 22 or the next installment. In the meantime, we will have to do without the “hand of god” from the Argentinian playmaker.
