Some of the developers who worked on the excellent survival game This War of Wine got together to create Floodland, a city-builder which will be released soon.
Climate change and mankind’s actions have led the Earth to its doom. Natural disasters are occurring all over the world, the rising waters are accelerating, in short, society is collapsing. This is the situation your character finds himself in, but he doesn’t intend to give up.
This City of Mine
Your journey will begin in a city engulfed by water and fortunately, you are not alone. A group of nomads accompanies you and it is with them that you will have to rebuild the societyAt least on your scale. But as the saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day. It will therefore take go back to the basics, namely farming, fishing or building with basic tools.
However, human nature is treacherous. Therefore, the more prosperous your civilization becomes, the more problems will accumulate. It is up to you to judge how best to resolve these conflicts. With this title, Vile Monarch and his team of former This War of Mine developers are once again tackling some real-world issues, but here in a post-apocalyptic world. Kacper Kwiatkowski, the Polish studio’s co-director, went back to that very point while mentioning some of the big names in the genre:
Grzegorz and I wanted to explore themes not often emphasized in games, one of them was to produce a mature and realistic game in a post-apocalyptic world, so the idea of Floodland emerged. This theme is notably represented in the audiovisual world with films and series such as The Road, Children of Men or The Walking Dead. In play, The Last of Us could be the one that comes closest to this atmosphere.
Floodland is scheduled for release on November 15. It will be on PC via Steam and GOG. To give you a better idea of the software, we invite you to watch the video below which presents the game mechanics.
