Gambler kidnaps his own granddaughter over his losses
When a person suffers from a gambling addiction, he or she has a compelling need to gamble that can lead to acts that are against the law and morality.
This is precisely what has just happened in China. A compulsive gambler recently decided to kidnap his own granddaughter in order to ransom her to pay off a gambling debt.
Fortunately, the whole thing ended well for the child and her mother.
A ransom of about 65 730€ demanded without hiding his identity
The identity of the offender whose unfortunate story interests us today has not been fully revealed. Indeed, we will have to make do with his only surname, namely : Yuan. This Chinese citizen started to play, after he retired from business. It should be noted that most forms of gambling are still prohibited in the Middle Kingdom, outside the Macau Special Administrative Region.
Nevertheless, it is very easy to indulge in mah jong, baccarat or bingo for example in many underground gambling dens. It was in such illegal gambling establishments that our man gradually increased his bets, which eventually led him to have to borrow money from his family in order to cover his losses. One day, his daughter would not help him anymore.
That’s why he was forced to come up with a dark scheme to pay off his gambling debts. He didn’t hesitate to kidnap his own granddaughter, who was only 4 years old, when she left school.
Then he asked his daughter for a ransom of 500,000 yuan, which is about 65,730€, which she had to pay him within 3 days. Otherwise, he told her that she would never see her daughter again.
Unfortunately for him, our man seems to be as unskilled as a gambler as he is a delinquent. He made no attempt to hide his identity from his daughter. The latter immediately called the police who quickly managed to arrest the famous gambler in debt.
An inmate whose behavior leaves something to be desired
During his interrogation, Yuan always denied the facts that he was accused of. According to him, this case is a simple family dispute. He blamed his daughter several times, saying that she was ungrateful for all that he had done for her.
During his incarceration, our man was not a model inmate by any means. To protest his arrest, he went on a hunger strike. Worse, he fought several times against other prisoners.
Fortunately, he finally came to terms with the situation after a meeting with his ex-wife. She was able to bring him back to his senses. From then on, he improved his behavior and decided to cooperate with the police.
