Following fan criticism that pointed to the miraculous recovery of Barbara Gordon (Batgirl), the studio had to explain its position.

Expected by the end of the year on PS5, Xbox Series and PC, Gotham Knight is a cooperative action-RPG in which it will be possible to embody several iconic characters of the Batverse like Nightwing, Red Hood, Robin and Batgirl. Except that in the comics, this one is in a wheelchair and the fans have asked questions.

A miraculous remission that is not to everyone’s taste

So they took a look at the character biography in the game where it says that Batgirl reportedly recovered from her injuries following intensive training. An organic that was obviously not to everyone’s taste since many people began to criticize the studio for minimizing the impact of the young woman’s disability.

As a reminder, in the comics, Barbara Gordon is severely shot in the spine by the Joker during one of her operations as Batgirl and loses the use of her legs, she will eventually continue her quest for justice in a wheelchair as Oracle. A serious injury that cannot be healed in the snap of a finger, if at all, in real life.

Warner therefore justified its choice by recalling thatthis was a fiction inspired by comics and whose events were not exactly the same as those of the books.

As with many of our characters and plot elements, the circumstances surrounding Barbara’s injuries differ in some important respects from how they have been portrayed in the comics. Barbara underwent several surgeries followed by a lot of physical therapy and pain management in Gotham Knights.

Moreover, the developers indicate that Batgirl’s jumpsuits have coatings to ensure good support and that’it will be possible to see her doing regular physical exercises in the HUB.

The studio also claims to have worked closely with AbleGamersan association that aims to strengthen accessibility in video games for people with disabilities, in order to learn more about the different types of spinal injuries and the possibilities of remission.

So yes, Batgirl will indeed cavort from roof to roof in Gotham Knights.

This is called being detail oriented.
