Grégory Rabuel appointed General Manager of the Barrière Group
In April 2023, Dominique Desseigne finally agreed, not without difficulty, to hand over the helm of the Barrière group to his eldest son Alexandre Barrière, who can count on the support of his sister Joy Desseigne-Barrière.
The reorganization of the land-based casino operator’s governance continues with the recent appointment of a brand new General Manager.
Grégory Rabuel has already taken up his post.
A recent buyout of Fimalac’s 40% stake in Barrière
The handover between Dominique Desseigne and Alexandre Barrière has been difficult, and their relationship is said to be less than ideal.
Nevertheless, Diane Barrière-Desseigne’s son is now at the helm of the family group. Together with his sister Joy Desseigne-Barrière, he has just acquired the 40% stake owned by the holding company Fimalac for 325 million euros (see below).
Together, they now own no less than 100% of the famous operator. In fact, their father was always only the usufructuary after his wife’s death.
Grégory Rabuel’s exemplary career
Alexandre Barrière and Joy Desseigne-Barrière have decided to appoint Grégory Rabuel as Chief Executive Officer of the Barrière group. They believe he has the experience and qualities required to lead the operator towards a new dynamic of growth, development and diversification of its activities in France and abroad.
Grégory Rabuel, 45, was formerly Chairman and CEO of SFR and Altice France. He has worked in the telecommunications and media sectors for 20 years.
At the start of his career in 2000, he joined Bouygues Telecom as a key account sales engineer. He then moved to SFR, where he became Regional Sales Director for Enterprise customers.
Within this group, he gradually rose through the ranks to be promoted, for example, to Chairman and CEO of SFR Distribution at the head of a thousand stores in 2014.
In 2019, he was promoted to head of SFR. At the time, the group generated sales of around 10.7 billion euros, thanks to more than 25 million customers and some 13,000 employees.
By 2021, he was even at the helm of Altice France, which brings together not only SFR, but also TV and radio channels and press titles such as BFM TV, RMC and L’Express, among others.
A brief history of the Barrière group
The land-based casino operator now known as Groupe Barrière was founded in 1912 by Ardèche businessman François André.
In 1951, his nephew Lucien Barrière joined the company, before being appointed head in 1961 following his uncle’s death.
When Lucien Barrière died of a heart attack on September 17, 1990, he was succeeded by his adopted daughter Diane Barrière-Desseigne.
Sadly, she suffered a serious plane crash in 1995. Since 1997, her husband Dominique Desseigne has been co-director of the group.
After his wife’s death in 2001, he remains sole head of the company.
