Final Fantasy XV and Type-0 director Hajime Tabata will return this year to announce a new JRPG.
He is hated as well as appreciated. Hajime Tabata had the heavy task of taking over the reins of Final Fantasy 15 after Tetsuya Nomura left the project. The result, we know it: a game that divided fans with its poor open world and shaky storytelling. Since then, the director of FF15 has been at the head of Luminous Productions, who is currently working on Forspoken, to then quit Square Enix in 2018 to form his own studio, JP Games.
If he has been very discreet since the release of FF15 in 2016, Tabata-san will return this year. In his traditional letter of greetings, the former spawn of Square Enix revealed that he would announce a new RPG in 2022, that is to say the very first “real” project of the studio. Recall that he announced a few months ago work on two major projects one of which would be medium-sized and would appear as a possible evolution of Final Fantasy Type-0, and the other an AAA. We just have to wait to find out which one will be announced in the coming months.
