If you are stuck with the latest PS4 system update (firmware 9.03) and find this SU-42481-9 error, here’s what to do.

While latest system update of the PS5 just got out, the PS4 also launched its update of software (9.03), but several users have discovered an error that prevents them from downloading this mandatory update.

Fortunately, this error is known (and no one is immune to encountering it with each firmware update), Sony therefore explains the procedure for correct error SU-42481-9.

Note that the error code tells you that “System software update failed”.

  • Restart your PS4 console, then try updating the system software using a wired connection if possible.
  • Select Notifications from the PS4 function area, highlight the update file, and press OPTIONS> Delete.
  • Then select Settings> Update system software.
  • If you experience multiple download failures, update the PS4 system software using a USB device. See this guide for more information.
