While Ubisoft has cancelled several of its games in development, Jeff Grubb informs us that a new episode of the Immortals Fenyx Rising franchise is in the works.
Not long ago, Ubisoft decided to clean up its games in development. Ghost Recon Frontline, Splinter Cell VR and Avatar has been postponed. A somewhat tense climate at the French publisher who intends to refocus his staff on other projects, and it may well be that one of them is already known.
Towards a new franchise?
The very informed Jeff Grubb took advantage of a recent podcast to announce thata game from the franchise launched by Immortals Fenyx Rising would be in development. This new episode would not be a direct continuation of the first opusbut rather a similar game transposed into another mythology.
According to Grubb, this spin-off would have chosen Hawaiian and Polynesian mythology and would be based on the same structure as Immortals Fenyx Rising, with notably, a God as narrator. However, the soft should be more emancipated on its side Breath to the Wild.
The “sequel” to Immortals Fenyx Rising by Ubisoft Quebec is not a real sequel. It’s more like a spin-off. The code name of the game is Oxygen. It would be based on Hawaiian and Polynesian culture this time. There is still a God as narrator and the game should still be visually stylized, but it’s less of a copy of Breath of the Wild
So it could be that Ubisoft wants to create a new game franchise, like Assassin’s Creed that takes up historical eras and settings, games like Immortals Fenyx Rising could develop several mythologies, and there are a good bunch. Grubb insists, however, that the game would be in its infancy and would certainly not see the light of day until a good 2025. So wait and see.
It’s at the beginning of the pre-production, I’ve seen some concept art, it’s coming maybe in 2025
