After growing 100,000 trees in the Mojang game, an identical number will be planted in forests in France, Ethiopia and Ecuador with Operation #PlantForLife.
Last September, Microsoft and the Yves Rocher Foundation launched the #PlantForLive operation on Minecraft. All players could participate in the effort by virtually planting one or more trees on a dedicated server with the goal of growing, in real life, a tree in France, Ethiopia or Ecuador.
The objective of 100,000 trees planted was reached before the end of the operation, last December 11.
With an average of 8 minutes of creation per tree, nearly 14,000 hours of play were spent on the server for a good cause! The figure is impressive, but know that 100,000 trees, in reality this time, is equivalent to 140 football pitches.
These real-world plantations will be used for raising public awareness of the question of the place of trees in everyday life and its importance in today’s world: reforestation, preservation of biodiversity, soil fertilization, rehydration of watercourses, improvement of the living conditions of inhabitants … Find all the information on the operation on the Xbox blog.
