New setback for the Star Wars remake KOTOR

The remake project of the famous game Knights of the Old Republic keeps on having twists and turns in its development. Now it changes hands…

The information was almost unnoticed in the last activity report of the giant Embracer, since as always, the group decided to buy studios, but also the license of the Lord of the Rings. So of course, the rest is rather anecdotal. In its report, the executives simply stated that “a major AAA had been transferred to another team”. However, this very important change would concern the announced remake of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.

An unconvincing demo and layoffs

The long-awaited revival of this cult PC game has lost its development studio. Originally planned on the side of Aspyr Media, the game was passed on to another internal developer of Embracer in Eastern Europe, via its subsidiary Saber Interactiveadvance Bloomberg. If the two studios have in common their owner, the transfer of the project adds a little sand in the machine.

Indeed, last July, the developers of Aspyr learned that the project was paused. We could feel Embracer’s decision coming, as two project managers were fired in the process. Obviously, a demo presented to Lucasfilm Games, owner of the franchise, did not convince, far from it. As always, a problem of too much financing but too short time was evoked.

Embracer is now seeking to reassure, and this change in direction wants to convince investors, even though the stock had plunged following these revelations. Saber takes over the baby, will ensure that “the quality is there” and that the timing will be respected. “No major delays” are expected in the transition, but the game is not expected before three years …
