Nintendo expects Switch to be out of stock in 2022

After having somehow assured sales for the end of the year holidays, the boss of Nintendo admits not being able to keep up with demand and foresees problems in early 2022.

It’s no secret, but the stockouts in the hi-tech world, which were due to end in mid-2021, have been postponed several times (just like the games of the year). The supposed end date of 2021 is already a distant memory and if the main manufacturers are still all optimistic for mid-2022, some groups were quick to predict a return to normal for, at best, the end of 2022.

The president of Nintendo, Shuntaru Furukawa, took stock of the Switch, which is not the console most affected by the shortage, but which has already experienced some supply problems in the past. In the Japanese daily Kyoto NP, he expresses his concerns.

I can’t say that I was able to meet enough demand after Black Friday, and for the start of 2022. It depends on demand, but since I was worried, there will be an impact in the sense that we cannot produce as much as I would like to produce.

Nintendo had already confessed its problems before Christmas, warning players that there could be shortages for the end of the year. The concerns could therefore continue in early 2022. To overcome these problems, Sony is building its own semiconductor plant on its land. Nintendo, which is reinvesting land to build new studios, still has that option just in case the crisis does not end quickly …
