NY Mets owner considers casino license
The New York Mets, often simplified to NY Mets, are a mythical baseball team of the MLB. Its owner Steve Cohen has already made it known on several occasions that he was considering applying for a license to open a casino near his team’s Citi Field stadium located in Queens.
On Saturday, January 7, he held a public meeting where he asked for input from local residents on how best to develop the area.

There were more than 500 members of the local community on Saturday, January 7, who responded to Steve Cohen’s invitation to attend a public meeting at Citi Field. During this public meeting, he talked about different ways to transform the Willets Point neighborhood which has been dormant for far too long, according to him.
The NY Mets owner says he’s looking for big ideas. From the start, he made no secret of the fact that he believes that the development of a casino is an extremely interesting option.
This proposal does not seem to have been unanimously accepted. Indeed, some of the people present at the site expressed fierce opposition to the project. Of course, Steve Cohen knew that not everyone would support this idea.
That’s one of the reasons why he organized this famous public meeting to discuss this opportunity with the local population.
Opponents and supporters for Steve Cohen’s casino project
It’s now official: the boss of the NY Mets is seriously considering applying for one of the three casino licenses in the southern part of New York State, where the eponymous city is located. It could open a gaming establishment in the vicinity of the Citi Field baseball stadium. At the same time, he would create an entire park and improve access from the proposed site to the World’s Fair Marina and Flushing Meadows-Corona Park.
Unfortunately for him, Steve Cohen was faced with numerous Queens civic organizations that had already expressed their opposition to his casino project. One of the problems is the location of the complex itself.
There is also the simple fact of opening a gambling establishment that scares people about the increase in traffic in the area and the social problems that a casino could pose, including addiction.
Of course, the project led by Steve Cohen also has many supporters. They believe that it would be extremely beneficial to the entire Queens economy.
It is already known that the boss of the NY Mets has spent at least $ 334,854 to create the lobby group called New Green Willets. The latter must try to obtain the support of as many state and city officials as possible in favor of his casino project.
