The Pokémon Company must be thrilled since its flagship license is a hit again and again and allows it to record dizzying profits.
The Pokémon license needs no introduction, a real phenomenon for several decades, the saga has passed the simple video game stage for quite a while. Available in many different media, from mobile games to manga, stuffed animals, films or even collectible cards, everyone knows the license and it’s the Pokémon Company rubbing its hands.
Pokémon, the golden egg license
From February 2021 to February 2022, the brand and games such as Pokémon Go, Pokémon Snap, the Pokémon TCG, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and the remakes of Pearl and Diamond helped the Pokémon Company break all its records growth by recording net profits up by more than 123%.
In 12 months, the Pokémon license brought in no less than 204 billion yen (1.5 billion euros) and a net profit of more than 43 billion (€312 million). A nice record for the company which has one of its best years. But 2022 should not be outdone since the projects around Pokémon are still legion and large pieces arrive for the end of year celebrations.
The Pokémon TCG, for example, has just received yet another extension, while Pokémon Go is always updating. big games like Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Pokémon Diamond and Pearl are still squatting the global charts, even after each selling over 12 million copies and as a bonus, thea 9G arrives at the end of the year with Pokémon Purple and Scarlet. These will be presented from the beginning of June.
