Sony unveils a brand new program that will be offered to PlayStation players and will allow them to acquire certain rewards.

As announced on its blog, Sony will be implementing PlayStation Starsa new program open to all users of its consoles.

Rewards at stake

Free, it will allow access to various rewards. For example, the player who registers for this PlayStation Stars will be able to complete various activities called “campaigns” to earn loyalty points. How does it work? Well, in essence, it can be translated in the following way: spending a certain amount of time on a specific title, working towards specific trophies, such as being the first in your region to go platinum, or winning tournaments. Other campaigns may involve online games only.

Once these points in their possession, they will then be able to exchange them for funds from the PSN portfolio. This will then give them access to certain PS Store products such as Standalones, DLC. At least, that’s what will be offered at first, it seems. Sony intends, with time, to expand the field of possibilities.

PS Plus subscribers will have an advantage. For every purchase made on the PS Store, they will get extra loyalty points.

The points can be redeemed in a catalog that can include PSN wallet funds and select PlayStation Store products. As an added benefit, PlayStation Plus members enrolled in PlayStation Stars automatically earn points for their PlayStation Store purchases.

A digital object collection

And, among all the rewards, there will be some collectibles, that is to say digital representations of some figurines with the effigy of the main heroes for example. Objects on which Grace Chen (vice-president of the advertising network) brought some details with the Washington Post, which questioned her in particular to know if it was NFT. Which will not be the case, according to the words shared:

They are absolutely not NFTs. Absolutely not. You can’t trade them or sell them. They don’t leverage any blockchain technology and they are absolutely not NFTs

For now, there is no specific date as to when this PlayStation Stars will be launched. But, it is planned for this end of the year 2022.
