Sony wants to become the “Nike” of eSports

With its INZONE line of equipment, recently unveiled, Sony wants to become a major player in the world of eSports. This is what was stated to Nikkei.

In an interview with Nikkei, the executive vice president of Sony, Kazuo Kiihad the opportunity to speak about the new products INZONE unveiled recently. These last ones should, as it is said, serve the big ambitions of the Japanese giant in the field of theeSport.

Sony wants to become the number 1 equipment manufacturer

In June, Sony unveiled its INZONE range of hardware (headsets and screens) primarily intended for PC gamers (as reaffirmed by the interviewee), without however depriving PS5 owners. But, there is no doubt that this new range is mainly directed towards the world ofeSportbecause, as revealed by Kii, the brand is not without certain claims in the world of competition. It is quite logical that it has partnered with Riot Games and its Valorant for the next Championship Tour. A partnership that is, as mentioned in the comments shared, only the beginning of an adventure.

To give a little idea of what Sony wants to head, the vice president made a most meaningful analogy: the company is keen to borrow “the same supplier role that Nike has with athletes.”. Basically, to put it more clearly, it wants to fully engage with “hardcore gamers”, by becoming their number 1 equipment supplier. Something in which, Sony could succeed without difficulty considering the experience that it holds in the field of the television sets. At least, this is how Kii expressed himself. Here is what he says:

Many existing producers have their origins in PC manufacturing. Since monitors are designed to display data, there are problems to be solved with regard to vividness and contrast.Sony is unique in that we come from television manufacturing. We are proud of our picture technology. We look forward to showing customers our immersive experience and realism. […] We’re going to start at the top and learn what the best esports players want. The vision we have in mind is that of Mizuno and Nike providing footwear to athletes. You can win prizes in esports. If a monitor’s response time lags even a little, you lose. Sony’s products are not going to let people in these grueling battles down.
