Embracer, which has just announced its intention to acquire part of Square Enix, indicates the projects which seem to be reserved for certain cult licenses.

At the beginning of the month, the Swedish company announced the acquisition of the western branch of Square Enix, including Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal as well as certain cult licenses such as Deus Ex, Legacy of Kain and, of course, Tomb Raider (of which a new opus has already been announced). An acquisition that has just been mentioned by Embracer when declaring its results and for which certain projects should emerge.

Sequels, remakes and remasters

Embracer sees many opportunities in these new franchises. Indeed, as stated by the CEO of the company (Lars Wingefors), it would not be excluded, it is even widely considered, to see a large number of projects emerge. This includes suites but also a large number of remake and remasters as well as other “transmedia” works.

We recently announced the acquisition of Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal, including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain and other IPs[…]. The ad received an overwhelming and positive response. We see great potential, not only in sequels but also in remakes, remasters, spin-offs as well as transmedia projects across the group.

A fairly logical statement given the breeding ground now in their possession. Now let’s wait and see what fate awaits him.
