It will no longer be possible to make purchases on the online stores of these two consoles, but certain functions will still remain active for some time.
Everything has an end, including online console services. Thus, Nintendo announced in a press release that purchases on the eShop of the Wii U and the 3DS, two consoles having known opposite destinies, will be definitively interrupted. end of March 2023.
Some functions will even be disabled during this year:
- From from May 23, 2022it will no longer be possible to use a credit card to add funds to fund an account in the eShop of the WiiU or 3DS family of consoles.
- From from August 29, 2022, it will no longer be possible to use a card to add funds to an account in the Wii U eShop or Nintendo 3DS family of systems. It will however be still possible to use download codes until the end of March 2023.
- Users who link their wallet Nintendo ID (used with the Wii U and 3DS family of consoles), and their wallet Nintendo Account (used with Switch models), will be able to use the shared balance to purchase content on either console until the end of March 2023. After this date, the balance can only be used to purchase content on the Switch family of consoles.
However, it will still be possible to access the eShop after March 2023 to download or re-download games you own on the console, receive updates, and play online on 3DS and Wii U. Nintendo, however, did not indicate for how long.
The manufacturer also specifies that it has opened a souvenir site, which will allow you to see your history and your statistics if you link your account to that of these consoles.
