The ratings site has established a ranking of the studios of the year based on the ratings received by their games. Microsoft posts a record of good ratings according to Metacritic.

The Metacritic ratings aggregatorwhich usually takes advantage of the end of the year to give honorary awards to games in its database (such as the most popular game of 2021 or the worst ratings of the year) took a little longer to establish the video game studio of the year.

In a blog post published this Wednesday, we learn that the studio of the year 2021 is none other than Microsoft (Xbox Game Studios to be precise), which made a considerable leap since it was ranked 6th in 2020. For Metacritic, the average of its games in 2021 exceeds 87/100, on 5 different products.

It’s very rare for a publisher to get an average above 80 for their releases in a single calendar year. But how often does a company have an average above 85? Never…until this year.

Halo Infinite, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Forza Horizon 5 or even Psychonauts 2 have therefore touched the hearts of the public during this year which is ending, propelling the game to the top of publishers, in front of the competitor of always, Sony, which is doing with a very good 81.3/100 out of 10 products.

Finally, in third place we find Humble Games, 80.9/100 on 7 separate titles. Surprisingly, despite having come under heavy criticism throughout the year, Activision-Blizzard is just behind, within a few tenths. Finally, note the last, Merge Games: 61.5/100 for 7 titles, a distributor whose score was, according to Metacritic, enhanced by a “surprisingly good” Road 96 he edited for the physical version on Switch.
