MGM Resorts International victim of a cyber attack
The American group MGM Resorts International has just announced that it has been the victim of a cyber attack.
The attack targeted its hotel-casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, causing a long series of major disruptions.
This kind of case is increasingly affecting the gaming industry. After the small French operator Vikings Casinos last spring, the online casino Stake also recently faced a cyber attack.
Rumors confirmed by an official Twitter post
MGM Resorts International made the announcement on its Twitter account on Monday, September 11. Rumors and other rumors had already begun to spread.
However, it has now been confirmed. As a result, it is now officially known that the American group has been hit by a cyber attack on its hotel-casinos on the Las Vegas Strip.
These include iconic establishments such as the Bellagio, Aria, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay and Luxor.

The situation returned to normal on September 12
On various social networks, a number of photos and videos were quickly posted by customers of MGM Resorts International hotel-casinos affected by the cyberattack.
For example, they showed slot machines that were completely inoperative. In addition, some players reported that they were unable to check in, pay with their credit card or even enter their hotel room, among other things.
Nevertheless, on Tuesday September 12, the MGM Resorts International Twitter account announced that the situation had returned to normal. All its hotel-casinos on the Las Vegas Strip were now operational.
What’s ironic about this situation is that this city in the state of Nevada is used to hosting major events in the technology industry.
Coincidentally, the Mandalay Bay had just hosted the Black Hat USA 2023 cybersecurity conference last month.
Cyber attacks on Vikings Casinos and Stake
This type of cyber attack has already affected other companies in the gaming industry. Last April, for example, the land-based casinos of the French Vikings Casinos group, including the Casino des Atlantes in Les Sables-d’Olonne in the Vendée département, were forced to keep their doors closed for several days.
The reason for these closures was a cyber-attack which caused a major computer breakdown.
Just a few days ago, online sports betting and casino platform Stake also fell victim to a cyberattack. The attack cost the company no less than $41.35 million in various cryptocurrencies.
Following a swift investigation, the FBI announced that the perpetrator was the Lazarus group of hackers sponsored by North Korea.
