Hard Rock discusses its Mirage transformation
Hard Rock International Group has just shown a little more about the upcoming transformation of The Mirage hotel-casino it recently acquired on the Las Vegas Strip.
It plans to build a 36-story building in the shape of an electric guitar, which is already scheduled to open in the year 2025.
However, for this to happen, he still needs to obtain the necessary authorization from the Nevada Gaming Control Board. The latter is due to meet soon to decide on the matter.
Its final decision is expected on Friday, December 16.
A $1.075 billion cash deal
The Seminole American Indian tribe of Florida owns the Hard Rock brand. Sometime in 2021, it announced that it will purchase The Mirage hotel-casino from operator MGM Resorts International for $1.075 billion in cash.
After obtaining the required approvals from the relevant agencies, the transaction was finally completed in early 2022 to become fully effective on December 19.
Under the terms of the agreement, MGM Resorts International will retain The Mirage name and brand. However, Hard Rock International can still continue to use them royalty-free for up to three years.
The company has indicated that it intends to operate the hotel-casino as is for another 18 months or so.
Changes unveiled by Hard Rock International
18 months: that’s plenty of time for Hard Rock International to do some work. Among them is the construction of a 36-story building in the shape of an electric guitar with 6 beams of light that will rise 6,000 meters into the sky to represent the strings of the instrument.
Thus, the tower should be quite similar to the one that sits at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood in the state of Florida. It will replace the famous artificial volcano that has made The Mirage famous since its opening in 1989. It is now also known that this new building will accommodate between 800 and 1,000 additional rooms.
A redesign of the gaming area is also planned, including an expansion of more than 7,400 square meters, which will allow for an additional 1,164 slot machines and 161 traditional gaming tables. In addition, another smaller casino is also scheduled to open across the Strip in the complex, offering 200 slot machines and 12 table games.
Finally, the Hard Rock International group also plans to renovate all the existing rooms and suites as well as the villas, meeting and convention spaces and the pool. It will also expand the auditorium with an additional 3,000 seats.
Through a joint statement, MGM Resorts International and Hard Rock International also announced the permanent closure of the Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat attraction.
