Londoner Macau completes $2 billion overhaul
It was on April 11, 2012 that the $4 billion Sands Cotai Central hotel-casino opened its doors in Macau. It was officially rebranded as The Londoner Macao during 2021. Then, via a budgeted $2 billion renovation, its overhaul has just been completed.
The gaming complex was inaugurated under its new name just a few days ago. The ceremony marks the culmination of the vision of the late Sheldon Adelson, founder of the Las Vegas Sands group.
The Journey Begins: the inauguration ceremony of The Londoner Macau hotel-casino
The work that interests us in today’s news has linked The Londoner to The Parisian, The Venetian and The Plaza, creating a huge resort where the grandeur of Europe meets the vibrant life of Macau’s Cotai district.
For the inauguration ceremony, entitled Le Voyage Commence, the Las Vegas Sands group managed to attract quite a few stars. English soccer icon David Beckham made the trip.
Chinese piano virtuoso Lang Lang, Hong Kong singer-songwriter G.E.M., Chinese actor and singer Ayanga, and British jazz singer Jamie Cullum were also in attendance.

Bringing the London experience closer to home for Asian tourists
The Londoner Macao hotel-casino features reproductions of famous London landmarks such as the Palace of Westminster, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Victoria Station and the famous Shaftesbury Memorial fountain at Piccadilly Circus.
This gives Asian tourists a chance to experience London without having to travel too far from home. As an added bonus, we’ve just learned that the hotel-casino will soon be hosting a Harry Potter exhibition, which is currently on show in Paris and New York.
Thanks to a powerful narrative and innovative technology, it allows visitors to discover accessories and costumes from the various films in the saga.
Las Vegas Sands to invest $3.8 billion by 2033
The inauguration of The Londoner Macau hotel-casino is an integral part of the Las Vegas Sands group’s multi-billion-dollar plan to move from high-stakes VIP gamblers to the general public.
In exchange for the new 10-year license it received at the end of last year, the American operator has pledged to invest at least $3.8 billion in its Macau hotel-casinos, including $3.5 billion in non-gaming areas.
On various occasions, Las Vegas Sands CEO Rob Goldstein has indicated that his group plans to spend considerably more by the end of its current concession in 2033. Indeed, the operator sees its presence in Macau in the long term and is a great believer in the market’s potential.
