U2 guitarist talks about Las Vegas concert series
During the 2023 Super Bowl finale, a brief commercial confirmed a rumor that has been growing for many months. Indeed, it finally officially announced U2’s Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere UV concert series in the future venue of The Venetian hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
Not long ago, the guitarist of the Irish rock band (Dave “Edge” Evans) gave some more information about these concerts.
No date yet set for these concerts, perhaps less numerous than expected
According to the latest unofficial information, it was thought that U2’s shows at the MSG Sphere at The Venetian would kick off on Friday, September 29, 2023. Nevertheless, this date is absolutely not certain, if we believe Dave “Edge” Evans.
Indeed, he has just declared to the press that there was not yet a firm and definitive calendar since the famous building which must welcome these concerts is still under construction at the moment. He nevertheless acknowledged that the shows will indeed take place between the beginning of September but not before and Christmas but not after.
Unfortunately for fans, the guitarist of the band U2 has continued to downplay the event. Originally, there was talk of a 12-date residency. However, he rather evoked on his side an inauguration of room.
Worse, he said not to expect a traditional residency, saying it would be spread out over a short period. As a result, there may not be the expected 12 concerts.
Concerts originally scheduled for 2021 to focus on the Achtung Baby album
Even if there is still a lot of uncertainty about the next series of U2 concerts at the MSG Sphere at The Venetian, some information has been made official by Dave “Edge” Evans. Indeed, he acknowledged that the shows will indeed focus on the band’s seventh album Achtung Baby from 1991. All the songs will be played live, even if they will not necessarily appear in order.
It is that the series of concerts was planned for the year 2021 in order to celebrate the 30 years of this cult album. However, the international pandemic of coronavirus has delayed the construction phase of the MSG Sphere at The Venetian. This has logically prevented the shows from taking place, as rumored.
Dave “Edge” Evans also returned to the absence of the drummer (Larry Mullen Jr) who cannot play during 2023 to recover from neck and elbow surgery. He recognized of course that this founding member of U2 will be greatly missed, especially since it is the first time in 40 years of career that the band will not be reunited in full in concert.
He still wants to reassure the fans. Even if he is quite unknown to the public, the chosen replacement (the Dutch musician Bram van den Berg) is very comfortable with the band.
For the record, the $2.2 billion MSG Sphere venue is to seat 17,500 people within The Venetian Las Vegas hotel-casino.
