Naughty Dog not interested in third person PS3 motion control game
With Microsoft’s Project Natal and the PS3 Motion Control set to dominate more than a few virtual column inches this year 2010 looks to be the second coming of motion controlled gaming. But don’t expect every developer to jump on the bandwagon. Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells has said the developer has no interest in making a third-person motion controlled offering.
“If we were going to make a motion controller game, I think we’d want to tackle it from the bottom up and make sure that we were designing the game around the motion control, the way the best Wii games are designed,”Wells told G4tv.
That would appear to rule out a third Uncharted game from getting the PS3 motion control treatment.
But that doesn’t mean future Naughty Dog titles won’t get motion controls. As Wells explained, he is quite the Wii fan, and he thinks many PS3 fans are too.
“I think Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort are some of the best experiences of this generation, honestly. They’re immensely playable and competitive, and just great fun with a group of people in the same room, he said, commenting on the potential for motion controls on the PS3.
“I think the PlayStation audience is totally for it, in fact, I bet you there are lot of closet Wii owners in the PlayStation community. If there is some really good software for that motion controller, I think it can be a big, big success.”
