New hologram tech paves the way for truly physical gaming
Researchers at the University of Tokyo have developed a holographic projector that could pave the way for gamers to feel force feedback on their body. It’s the future.
The game changing tech was demonstrated in a remarkable video (above) showing off its endless possibilities.
The holographic projector displays three-dimensional objects gamers can actually feel with their bare hands. Think Microsoft’s Project Natal, but with the ability to actually feel virtual objects on your skin.
Using mirrors, an Airborne Ultrasound Tactile Display and a couple of Wii Remotes to track movement the video shows how a user is able to actually feel the impact of objects and shapes on their hand such as rain, balls and small creatures scurrying along on someone’s palm.
So, why should we care?
Well, imagine playing a first-person shooter and feeling impact with every bullet without the need to be wired up with peripherals, or playing a driving game with actual gusts of wind slapping your face as you get into top gear.
We’re sure there are other *ahem* more lewd possibilities but we’re staying hushed on those.
Not convinced? Check out the video above.
