Made available to “general surprise”, Cyberpunk 2077’s long-awaited new gen patch does a pretty good job, but ultimately doesn’t deliver on all of its promises.
Cyberpunk 2077’s massive new gen patch was released a few days ago, and DigitalFoundry has, as usual, returned the copy PS5 and Xbox Series from every angle to analyze their performance.
A quality patch, but without 4K
Throughout the video we realize that this new version of Cyberpunk 2077 is in great shape whether in performance mode or in quality mode with a touch of ray tracing. The thing, however, is thatneither of its two modes reach 4K but rather approach 1440p.
In fact, even though the game is clearly cleaner and maintains a stable framerate, on the Sony console, it oscillates between 1260p and 1729p. For his part, thehe Xbox Series X version does a little better by offering a resolution between 1382p and 1782p.
We are therefore well above the pre-patch proposal, but far from the 2160p initially promised by CD Projekt. However, it would be wrong to fire on the ambulance so this new gen patch still considerably improves the experience by offering a little ray tracing on the shadows, better finished faces and above all a much more solid framerate.
In any case, it might be time to stop taking players for six-week-old rabbits by trying to sell 4K all the time. Especially since it is clearly more pleasant to have a 1440p provided, clean and stable, in addition to being much more permissive for the developers and the console, than an unstable 4K at 30 fps and which ultimately does not bring than a sharper resolution.
In any case as far as Cyberpunk 2077 is concerned, if you want real 4K you will have to turn to a PC version with a machine well equipped to take the hit.
