Nintendo’s partner development studio since the first Super Mario and Donkey Kong was bought by the Japanese giant, which now makes it an internal subsidiary.

SRD Co. Ltd., although independent for years, has always worked hand in hand with Nintendo. This will be all the more the case now, since Big N has announced that it has got hold of its partner company, which has already worked on titles from the sagas. Donkey Kong, Legend of Zelda or Super Mario.

Now a 100% subsidiary of Nintendo, the support studio will work in even closer collaboration on the firm’s future projects. No major changes to be expected for them, the offices are already located in the main building in Kyoto. A decision which seems to take the same route as the recent announcements of the Japanese giant, the latter wishing to concentrate all his forces on the spotfor example with the recent acquisition of Next Level or the construction of a new building for the teams.

If the acquisition is undoubtedly cheaper than that of Bungie by Sony or especially Activision by Microsoft, it is nonetheless very important for the Japanese giant, who definitely offers the services of a historical company, founded in 1979, whose name appears in the credits of most of Nintendo’s cult sagas (Donkey Kong, Super Mario, up to Animal Crossing). The buyout will be effective April 1.
