The reboot project has had waves of departures and some internal problems since the beginning of its development. Will Embracer’s takeover of Crystal Dynamics have an impact on creation?

This Monday, the giant Embracer announced the acquisition within a few months of the European activities of Square Enix, which notably includes the Crystal Dynamics studio and Eidos Montreal. A list of very popular IPs was given by the Swedish group during the announcement, such as Tomb Raider or Hitman. But a name was not specified: Perfect Dark.

The reboot of this Rare game on N64 is officially planned by The Initiative. Except that, for several months, Crystal has taken over the project. Normally present as a support studio, CD would be recovering the developmentfollowing numerous departures from the original development team.

A project for the moment rather chaotic and which could be affected by a new problem with this change of owner. In order to avoid rumours, The Initiative therefore immediately commented on the takeover:

We are excited to see Crystal Dynamics taking these next steps with their studio. Our teams have made great strides in building Perfect Dark as co-development partners, and we will continue this work with them in their next chapter.

Obviously, Microsoft and Embracer, owners of the two studios concerned, will agree in the future to continue the development of this highly anticipated game. A way also for The Initiative to sweep away the rumors about its difficulties in bringing the title to an endhoping for a presentation at Summer Game Fest 2022.
