The movie Bioshock planned on Netflix now knows its director and its scriptwriter, regulars of the adaptation of comics or novels.
Second important information in the world video game adaptations. After yesterday’s announcement that the producer of Umbrella Academy would be heading the TV series project on Horizon, Deadline indicates that Francis Lawrence has been hired to direct the film Bioshock.
A regular in the adaptation for Bioshock
The 51 year old American is used to the exercise of adaptation since we owe him the very underrated Constantine with Keanu Reeves in 2005, the adaptation of the novel Water for Elephants in 2011, and the last three Hunger Games movies. He will also direct the new opus, a prequel scheduled for 2023. Lawrence had started in the music videos in the 90s and 2000s that everyone has seen, such as Independent Women by Destiny’s Child, I’m A Slave 4 U by Britney Spears, Cry Me A River by Justin Timberlake or Jenny from the Block by Jennifer Lopez.
The movie Bioshock will be adapted by comic book and TV writer Michael Green, who notably worked on the scripts of Blade Runner 2049 or Logan in the cinema and who produced many episodes of Smallville, Heroes or Gotham. Finally, the film will be supported by the studio Vertigo Entertainment, specialist of Asian horror (The Ring, The Grudge…)
All the lights seem to be green for this adaptation of the franchise on Netflix, which has known a lot of commotion. Planned in 2008, the adaptation was cancelled a little later by Universal Pictures who didn’t want to make a movie as dark as the game. No more news since then, but the SVOD company had announced in February the return of the license on its screens.
